The Great Bear Rainforest

The Great Bear Rainforest is considered a world model for conservation . It represents the largest temperate rainforest to be preserved at 16 million acres .

In a 2006 agreement between the BC Government and 27 First Nations communities who inhabit this space developed a co-management plan . Ninty percent of old growth logging would stop and resource development handled by First Nations.

This is a rich area of biodiversity:grizzlies, black bears, the rare Kermode white variant, coastal wolves, orcas, humpback whales, Pacific whiteside dolphins , sea lions . It is also home to 20pc of the world’s salmon population.

The GBR extends from Knight Inlet north to the Skeena River and then further north to the Khutzymatten Grizzly Bear Sanctuary and on to the Stikine River .

We will share with you some of our wilderness experiences in Knight Inlet

The Great Bear Rainforest is global treasure !
