Baptism of the Lord – 11 Jan 2026

Vicar’s Message

New Year’s blessings to you all.

As we begin 2026 the church’s year (which began with Advent) is well underway.

In this season after Epiphany the important events early in Jesus’ life that we remember: the visit of the Magi, Herod’s slaughter of the innocent, the holy family fleeing across borders for their lives, John the baptism calling out in the wilderness, “Repent!” all have echoes and mirrors in our own moment in history. As the world around us seems increasingly dire we can ask ourselves, are we living Gospel lives? Do we, like the Magi, put the vulnerable at risk by looking for salvation at the places of power or are we building the relationships and practices that help us recognize and refuse the Herods of our day? Do we learn from our mistakes, repent and seek to go home “another way”?

I hope that we will ask those questions and find those answers together.

In hope,

Rev. Laurel
