Reign of Christ – 23 Nov 2025

Deacon’s Message

Hello beloved parish family

All of my media (internet, emails, tv, etc.) has been filled with ads about Black Friday sales. While we’re being bombarded by communications that are telling us to BUY, BUY, BUY, our church is preparing to transition from one season to another.

This Sunday we will be celebrating Christ the King (or Reign of Christ) Sunday, the last Sunday of our liturgical year. As this year closes we will reflect on the nature of Christ – What does it meant to think of Jesus as a King?

As I have been preparing the sermon for Sunday one commentary I read suggested questions that arise from this week’s Gospel (Luke 23:33-43).

  • How do we respond to a King who reigns from the cross?
  • Are we ready to extend grace to those around us, even when it is difficult?
  • What if they actively work against our best interests?
  • Are we ready to embrace the radical love that Jesus exemplifies?

These are really, really hard questions and I can’t say that I have any answers.

However, maybe these questions will give us an alternative to consider as we live in the midst of a world that is focusing on the rampant consumerism and all the busy-ness of Christmas preparation.

See you on Sunday!
Eileen
