Dear Parish Family
I’ve been thinking about relationships, friendships, and family. What is it that makes a friend? Is it trust, common interests, honesty, mutual support, proximity? What is it that makes someone family – is it just biology, is it love or is it some combination of love and/or biology?
It’s been said that when your in trouble you find out who your real friends are. Another way to think of this is that you find out how good a friend you are when your friend is in trouble.
It’s not always easy to create connections. Sometimes people just don’t get along. Spend time with people long enough and you’re bound to run into a conflict or two. The point is that we keep trying. We may not always get it right and it won’t always be easy but God continues to call us to be together.
During my sermon prep for this week I found this description “Love is real when it appears in the difficult places”. I think that is one of the best ways to describe friendship, community and family. What do you think?
Here’s to bringing love to all the difficult places.
